Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(1), 81. Reviews the book, Children's fears by Benjamin B. Wolman (1978). The expressed purpose of this book is to provide parents with an understanding of the origin, nature, and development of children's fears, and with guidance regarding how they can help their children “outgrow” fears. Many of the interpretations offered in the book are of questionable validity and are not adequately explained by the author. Moreover, the book's advice to parents about how to help children overcome fears is usually vague. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
