Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(2), 140–141. Reviews the book, Experimental psychology: Research design and analysis. 3rd ed by Douglas W. Matheson, Richard L. Bruce, and Kenneth L. Beauchamp (1978). The present edition of this text differs from its two predecessors in that greater emphasis is placed on method and research design and less emphasis is given to presenting a representative survey of existing findings of experimental research. Accordingly, there are new chapters devoted, respectively, to single-subject research design, the effects of the experimenter and the experimental situation, and the creation of data and elements of measurement.
