Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(3), 214. Reviews the book, The Flight of the Stork by Anne C. Bernstein (1978). Despite its modest size, this book has ambitious goals: to convey what children between 3 and 12 know about reproduction and sexual intercourse and to discover the presumably invariant sequences children follow in constructing that knowledge. There are two separable issues in this book, the developmental sequencing of knowledge and the clinical advice. The author's advice to middleclass parents is sensible and interesting.
