Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(3), 234–235. Reviews the book, Effective Ingredients of Successful Psychotherapy by Jerome D. Frank, Rudolf Hoehn-Saric, Stanley D. Imber, Bernard L. Liberman, and Anthony R. Stone (see record 1979-29007-000). In the present book, individually written chapters address particular ingredients of successful psychotherapy. In the first four easily readable chapters, the authors succeed in demonstrating that certain shared ingredients may contribute to successful outcomes in a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches. Another purpose of this book is to relate the vicissitudes of operating an interdisciplinary psychotherapy research team over many years. This book should be applicable to both clinical researchers and practitioners. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
