Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(3), 263–264. Reviews the books, The other man, the other woman: Understanding and coping with extramarital affairs by Joel D. Block (1978); and How to choose and use the right therapist for you by Jean Erwin and Jim Erwin (1978); and Crisis: Psychological first aid for recovery and growth by Ann S. Kliman (1978). All three books are in a genre that provides lay audiences with guided self-help toward the obtaining of professional help. While the Erwins have contributed a brief and serviceable compendium of common problems and steps toward their solution, Block and Kliman center on special problems with the wisdom and compassion of knowledgeable artisans.
