Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(4), 292–294. Reviews the book, Cognitive Theory, Vol. 3 edited by N. John Castellan, Jr., and Frank Restle (1978). The common concern that unifies the individual contributions to this volume is the use of mathematical formulations in bringing cognitive theory to bear on at least some of the fascinating complexity of the mind. Part 1 of the book deals with psychophysical judgment. The second section of the book deals with models of processing time. Its common theme is the relative inadequacy of scalar measures in measuring and describing the time course of human cognitive processes. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
