Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(4), 303–304. Reviews the book, Sex and Behavior: Status and Prospectus edited by Thomas E. McGill, Donald A. Dewsbury, and Benjamin D. Sachs (1978). The book is divided into three sections on sex and behavior from the point of view of evolution, mechanisms, and human sexuality. It was the goal of the editors to emphasize the possibility of cross-fertilization of viewpoints. The topics dealt with are as diverse as Beach's interests in sex and behavior, and the treatment of issues is as varied as the personal interests of the 17 contributors. Good or bad, like those in so many other symposium proceedings, the chapters lack continuity. The unevenness in treatment and diversity of style may limit the book's audience to people interested in it as a reference work. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
