Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(4), 307–308. Reviews the book, Microcounseling: Innovations in Interviewing, Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Psychoeducation. 2nd ed by Allen E. Ivey and Jerry Authier (see record 1979-34526-000). This is an important book in counseling, partly because it addresses a major issue; in addition, it demonstrates an influential approach to counselor training and skill training for the general public. The authors state that the second edition focuses more on theory and cultural factors, while the first edition emphasized technique. Microcounseling is one of the few prominent, systematic approaches to training counselors. The publication of this edition will bring increased attention to this approach.
