Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(4), 330–331. Reviews the book, Termination in Psychoanalysis by Stephen K. Firestein (see record 1979-31395-000). Author's work on the termination phase of psychoanalysis, which he describes as research, offers his reader a few interesting conclusions, but not much in the way of a refined research strategy or methodological elegance. This approach to a clinical study reflects its own problems. Obviously it is not a hypothesis-testing study but is more of a general inquiry. The eight cases are well described, offering enough historical detail to allow readers to come to their own conclusions. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
