Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(4), 339–340. Reviews the book, Changing Approaches to the Psychotherapies edited by Henry H. Grayson and Clemens Loew (see record 1979-13753-000). The book is divided into three sections, one on theoretical and technical developments, one on body-related approaches, and one on integrative therapeutic approaches. The basis for inclusion in the volume and allocation of space is puzzling. There is also an excellent chapter on the use of biofeedback as an adjunct or as a collaborative tool to be used with more traditional psychotherapies. Finally, it is refreshing to have the encounter approach clearly treated as a psychotherapy modality with the responsibility and commitment to clients that psychotherapy should imply.
