Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(4), 343–344. Reviews the book, Psychosocial aspects of pediatric care edited by Elizabeth Gellert (1978). This book discusses a number of psychological issues that would be of interest to pediatricians and other medical practitioners working primarily with children. The major disadvantage is that the book never achieves a coherent focus. The present volume can serve only as an introduction to the more specialized reading necessary to become adequately familiar with the issues involved in testing and diagnosis. In spite of its rather hodgepodge character, this book does discuss numerous interesting and important topics in pediatric care, and could be recommended to medical personnel as worthwhile reading.
