Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(5), 437. Reviews the book, Methodological approaches to social science by Ian I. Mitroff and Ralph H. Kilmann (1978). This volume is another attempt at the analysis of social science methodologies, as well as a slight nudge in the direction of change through rational argument. The authors briefly review the literature on the classification of scientists and then present their own typology. The book presents some useful analyses, gathers a diversity of views, and provides food for spare time thought. It is unlikely that it will lead to a methodological unification of the social sciences. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
