Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(6), 496–497. Reviews the book, Language of Autistic Children by Don W. Churchill (see record 1980-03375-000). This book is about language of Autistic Children. In this book, the author provides a voluminous amount of detail about 14 children who underwent intensive training in an experimental nine-word language. From the outset of the book, language usability occupies a central role. The author summarizes the major findings at the outset and emphasizes 10 points of which the thoughtful professional needs to be continually aware. The reader is left with little doubt that all of these children have a severe language deficit. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
