Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(7), 580–582. Reviews the books, Behavior Analysis of Child Development by Sidney W. Bijou and Donald M. Baer (1978); and Child Behavior Therapy by David Marholin II (Ed.) (1978). In the first book, the authors' approach is clean and uncluttered. Although the authors state that the book is written for the student of behavior and development who has little or no background in psychology, it would take the exceptional nonpsychology student to master this concentrated text. The second book, is intended to inform the jader about behavior therapy rather than being a how-to-do-it manual, several chapters combine the two functions. The preface states that the book is meant for the sophisticated clinician who already knows the basic concepts and applications of behavior therapy and is using them, or who is currently learning them.
