Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(7), 587–589. Reviews the book, Mathematical Models for Social Psychology by Wilhelm F. Kempf and Bruno H. Repp (Eds.) (1977). The book is a revision and translation from German of a series of papers that were given at or prepared for a conference in Erlangen, West Germany, in 1973. A person wanting to review recent uses of mathematical models in social psychology would be sorely disappointed by this book. The range of applications discussed is narrow and not at all representative of contemporary social psychology. This is not to say that the book is not worth reading, however, only that the title may be misleading. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
