Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(7), 590. Reviews the book, The Clinical Psychology of Aging by Martha Storandt, Ilene C. Siegler, and Merrill F. Elias (Eds.) (1978). The editors of this book hoped to produce a single volume that encompassed all the current clinical literature on aging and could be used as either a text or handbook. Although these are very high aspirations, the efforts of authors do not fall very far short of the mark. Almost all of the chapters are relevant, concise, and as thorough in their treatment of the material as one could reasonably hope for in a general text. While this book may not have a great deal to say to the highly experienced geriatric clinician, it could do an admirable job as either an introductory or middle-range text.
