Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(7), 590–591. Reviews the book, Videotape Techniques in Psychiatric Training and Treatment. Rev. ed by Milton M. Berger (Ed.) (1978). Author has provided a “state of the art” summary of the use of videotape in psychiatry. This book should provide stimulation for anyone with the slightest interest in videotape techniques, since it presents creative new developments in supervision and training and in a wide variety of treatment modalities, as well as basic material dealing with legal, ethical, and technical issues. The book provides ample stimulation for the practitioner or supervisor, but it also repeatedly makes the important point that videotape provides no magical shortcuts.
