Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(8), 664–665. Reviews the book, Congenital and acquired cognitive disorders. Research publications. Association for Research in Nervous and Mental Disease, Vol. 57 edited by Robert Katzman (1979). The two decades that have elapsed have afforded major discoveries relating to congenital genetic disorders. This volume documents these advances in the understanding of congenital genetic disorders in chapters devoted to the pathobiology and psychopathology of the dementias and their normal neurobiologic substrates. However, similar understanding of infantile autism has been elusive. The current state of knowledge of this disorder is presented in four of the, book's chapters. A third major topic treated in this, volume is senile dementia. It is clearly the hope of the volume editor that the present book would help sparkl the research interest required to make it happen. Although the material contained in, the book is available in other books. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
