Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(9), 693–694. Reviews the book, Single Subject Research: Strategies for Evaluating Change edited by Thomas R. Kratochwill (1978). Kratochwill and his colleagues have compiled in this book for the first time a number of techniques and strategies for evaluating change in a single subject. Their approach is sufficiently detailed and technical to prove useful to other investigators struggling with these same problems. Kratochwill and his colleagues have marshaled an impressive array of methods for evaluating change in the single subject over time. They have also done a great service by clearly outlining the fundamental dilemmas still unresolved in drawing strong conclusions from repeated study of a single case.
