Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(9), 710–711. Reviews the book, Abortion in Psychosocial Perspective: Trends in Transnational Research edited by Henry P. David, Herbert L. Friedman, Jean van der Tak, and Marylis J. Sevilla (1978). The volume contains methodological papers, position papers, and reports of previously published results. Two chapters are devoted to methodological issues, and both are excellent. The weaker parts of this uneven work surface when scientist turns polemicist, a phenomenon that the-authors readily admit is an inevitable outcome of assuming roles as advocates for the availability of nontraumatic abortion.
