Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(9), 715–716. Reviews the book, The Prevention of Sexual Disorders: Issues and Approaches edited by C. Brandon Quails, John P. Wincze, and David H. Barlow (1978). This disappointing collection of eight chapters appears at first, from the table of contents, to be a very promising book covering the gamut from hormones to cultural values in the treatment and prevention of sexual disorders. The chapters are generally devoid of scholarly coverage of research or insightful discussion of theory. Even more disturbingly, the book contains a shocking amount of inconsistency and contradiction.
