Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(9), 724–725. Reviews the book, Natural sex by Mary Shivanandan (1979). Fear of modern contraceptives, unwillingness to interrupt the spontaneity of sexual relations with barrier methods, and rethinking of traditional roles have rekindled interest in natural family planning, particularly the ovulation method developed by Drs. John and Lyn Billings and advocated by the Human Life and Natural Family Planning Foundation. Neither a textbook nor a manual, the book offers a sensitive examination of an intimate topic laden with difficulty for many couples. It is a philosophical approach with which psychologists should become more familiar. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
