Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1979, Vol 24(9), 725. Reviews the book, Nonverbal communication: Readings with commentary (2nd ed.) edited by Shirley Weitz (see record 1980-51455-000). This second edition represents an extensive and masterful job of keeping apace of the continuing explosion of research and interest in nonverbal communication. Compared to the volume issued five years ago, this second edition is virtually a new book. The author modestly states that this book taken alone “constitutes a reasonably complete introduction to the study of nonverbal communication.” It has, in fact, all the earmarks of a classic text for a subarea of psychology that not only impinges upon many others but also increasingly captures the interest of laypersons and psychologists alike.
