Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1983, Vol 28(3), 191–193. Reviews the book, Work Alienation: An Integrative Approach by Rabindra N. Kanungo (1982). In its precise and unswerving development this book carries through with its promise to provide a challenge to the spate of existent frameworks that thus far have failed to provide a sound set of unequivocal, reliable, integrated, and cross-culturally valid measures for the quantifiable assessment of work involvement and job alienation. Consistent with the premise that his discontent is “not with a need for better understanding of the phenomena,” Kanungo does little to expand our understanding of his topic.
