Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1993, Vol 38(11), 1195–1196. Reviews the book, Developmental Psychology: An Advanced Textbook (3rd ed.) edited by Marc H. Bornstein and Michael E. Lamb (1992). Is this third edition truly a textbook? Oddly, there is no Preface, but the Preface to the second edition characterized it as an “introduction to developmental psychology for the advanced student of psychology.” Although it could not be as extensive as the old Carmwhael's Manuals, a textbook should have a relatively thorough coverage of the fundamental topic areas in developmental psychology.
