Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1993, Vol 38(11), 1236. Reviews the book, Measuring Mental Health Needs edited by Graham Thornicroft, Chris R. Brewin, and John Wing (1992). This state-of-the-art treatment of mental health needs assessment in England bears the imprimatur of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Because of its appropriately close linkage to the British health and mental health system, it is not directly applicable to U.S contexts. Nevertheless, American practitioners of needs assessment and students of mental health policy should benefit from this expert analysis from the British perspective.
