Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1993, Vol 38(12), 1296–1297. Reviews the book, Psychotherapy for the 1990s edited by J. Scott Rutan (see record 1992-97466-000). This book is about how psychotherapy has been changed–for the better and worse–in the modern age. It covers the broad array of contemporary psychotherapies, the myriad issues in practice today, and new conceptualizations and modalities. Perhaps if the book's title had reflected its psychodynamic-psychoanalytic bias, and if several of the chapters had been given different titles, readers would not have to be forewarned time and again not to expect material that could be called topical or au courant.
