Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1993, Vol 38(12), 1302–1304. Reviews the book, Preschool and Early Childhood Treatment Directions edited by Maribeth Gettinger, Stephen N. Elliott, and Thomas R. Kratochwill (1992). This volume is the ninth in a series originally titled “Advances in School Psychology.” The book's purpose is to review a number of research issues related to the topic of early childhood education and, as evidenced by its title, to suggest how children who are identified as having special needs might be treated in clinical or educational settings. The book fails, however, in making these latter links in any detailed way. In general, we found the book to be an excellent resource for individuals needing an introduction to the field of early childhood education and this population.
