Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1994, Vol 39(1), 38. Reviews the book, I Never Knew I had a Choice (5th ed.) by Gerald Corey and Marianne Schneider Corey (1993).This is a readable, practical, and uncomplicated primer on the fundamentals of self-awareness and making choices; it includes an Instructor's Manual. The premise of the book is that college students need to improve their skills in addressing personal, family, community, work, and leisure experiences. The most significant change between the fourth and fifth edition is an increased emphasis on social consciousness and its interconnectedness to self-actualization. This is accomplished in a manner that appears consistent with the authors' presentation of the book's content from a humanistic and existential point of view.
