Abstract

Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1994, Vol 39(2), 166–167. Reviews the book, Personality Dynamics by Benjamin B. Wolman (1992). This book has the flavor of a final lecture, reflecting his more than 40 years of research, teaching, and practice. Among Wolman's ambitious goals are to provide a new approach to theory construction in psychology, offer a possible solution to the mind-body problem, offer a new interpretation of human nature, provide new theories of human relations and development, present a new position on the nature-nurture issue, and offer new insights on mental health and mental disorder. Wolman's final lecture is imaginative and informative, and he presents several ideas that are bold and perhaps heuristic. Nevertheless, psychology's persistent questions persist.
