Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1998, Vol 43(11), 741-743. The editors and other contributors of this book (see record 1997-08644-000) have attempted to close some of the gaps between research findings on emotional development and educational practices in the classroom. The chapters present much of the very best available evidence relevant to understanding children's emotions and their regulation. In turn, the educators provide comments about how the material relates to their everyday activities in the classroom or school system. The theme of emotion regulation tends to dominate the book.
