Abstract

The significance of assessing the intelligence of hospitalized people with psychiatric disabilities with low cognitive ability is discussed, along with a review of the relevant literature. One publicly supported hospital from each of the United States (except Alaska and Hawaii) was surveyed to determine what instruments of intellectual ability are presently employed, and what instruments are considered appropriate to evaluate this population. The results are presented with discussion.
