Neurocritical care depends on careful interpretation of neurologic findings, combined with neuroimaging, neurophysiological, laboratory and other clinical findings. Advances in the critical care management of patients with life-threatening neurological diseases led to improved survival. Emerging neuromonitoring techniques allow new insights into the pathophysiology of secondary brain injury. The current issue comprises nine important topics of neurocritical care summarized from a diagnostic, management and monitoring perspective.
