Psychological Care for Patients With Diabetes — Present and Future
With the growing prevalence of diabetes and the difficulties in controlling the disease, diabetes has become a problem not to be taken lightly. Affecting around 8% of the global population (415– 420 million people, of whom 90–95% are type 2 diabetics), diabetes has become a worldwide health issue. As a chronic disease, diabetes has life-long impacts on affected patients. Living with diabetes requires the patients to make numerous adaptations that, in turn, cause strains in their lives. Considering the growing number of diabetic patients and the intractableness of diabetes management, healthcare providers should regard helping patients survive diabetes successfully as their primary responsibility.
