We would like to thank Dr Tanemoto for the comments [1] on our recently published paper investigating the role of the initial and longitudinal increase in blood pressure (BP) on progression of arterial stiffness among multiethnic middle-aged men [2]. We agree that the change of stiffening index might be partially dependent on the change of BP, particularly in a relatively short period. However, this cannot completely explain the results from our study regarding a positive significant association between BP change with arterial stiffness progression over a maximum of 7 years of follow-up [3].
