Is Antibiotic Alternative to Appendectomy?
I have read the article titled, “Nonoperative Treatment With Antibiotics Versus Surgery for Acute Nonperforated Appendicitis in Children: a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial” with great interest and congratulate the authors.1
Nonsurgical treatment of acute appendicitis with antibiotics is not a new invention. A few case reports and a short series of successful treatment of acute appendicitis with antibiotics have been reported since the 1950s.2
There are some issues that must be clarified.
