Excerpt

ALTHOUGH ALMOST everyone knows about muscular dystrophy (MD), even many nurses are unfamiliar with limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMDs). Through a case study in this article, nurses will learn to assess and care for patients with this inherited disease, educate them about self-care, and become familiar with resources to support patients and their families. One coauthor, Keith Brazzo, is the father of a child with LGMD and writes from personal experience.
