Make an impact with development plans
Collaborating with a self-motivated employee who has a strong desire to learn is easy for any manager. These employees are the ones who come into your office with new ideas and solutions. They work hard, learn fast, and do it all with a smile. However, most of our employees need more from us. Some have ambition, but may not know how to channel it into career advancement. Some are happy to just meet the minimum requirements of the job. Others have trouble even doing that. If you're anything like me, a daily question is how to build up your employees, helping the motivated to become leaders, the adequate to step up their game, and the underperforming to keep their jobs. The employee development plan is a great tool for this. When used tactfully and thoughtfully, it's an essential skill for developing employees at any stage in their employment.
