We read the letter by Dr Alpert [1] addressing our recent article [2] and appreciate his interest along with his desire ‘to advance clinical awareness and quality research in this area’, which is a goal we share. The ultimate aim of our study was to provide relevant data for physicians on the clinical utility of oscillometric and aneroid devices for children of all ages. Given the removal of mercury sphygmomanometers from the clinical setting and the widespread adoption of oscillometric devices in adult blood pressure (BP) measurement, this issue is of widespread current interest.
