Nurse practitioners (NPs) are educated to ensure a well‐prepared advance practice nursing work force. The advanced practice nursing educational system functions as a pipeline to create the current and future workforce. The faculty who are grounded in clinical practice are needed to prepare future NPs. Deans see that clinicians do not always have a clear picture of academia and the faculty role. This article is written to provide an overview from a dean's perspective of some key considerations when transitioning into a nurse faculty role.
