Structural differences and diverse biological functions of IgG subclasses have been discussed in comprehensive reviews.1 For practical purposes, it is important to keep in mind that IgG2 is the main subclass among which antibodies to polysaccharides can be found. A few polysaccharide antibodies are part of the IgG1 subclass but probably not able to correct an IgG2 deficiency.
