Abstract

Deprescribing is the removal or reduction of medications to improve patient function and quality of life. Despite potential benefits, patients who have received medications from trusted clinicians may resist deprescription, as they fear return of medical problems, use medications to cope, or view them as instruments to benefit health or prolong life. Deprescribing clinicians often struggle with opposition and patient distress as they seek to enhance patient well-being.
