Abstract

A middle-aged woman underwent 99mTc-sestamibi parathyroid scintigraphy because of parathyroid disease, and a focal pulmonary uptake of 99mTc-sestamibi was incidentally found on both planar and SPECT/CT images without corresponding pulmonary abnormality on the CT images. After 10 days, a subsequent parathyroid scintigraphy revealed no pulmonary accumulation. Therefore, the pulmonary intense 99mTc-sestamibi focus that once appeared in the first scan might be an artifact of iatrogenic microembolism from injection site.
