As the field of ophthalmology continues to make advancements, patients who undergo cataract surgery will continue to have improved postoperative outcomes. Our evergrowing aging population will require an increasing number of cataract surgeries. With this increase comes the opportunity to improve upon established practices and to develop novel techniques so that we may perform cataract surgeries in patients with diverse underlying conditions. The work presented here in the following pages allows the cataract surgery community to engage in discussions about how to improve clinical outcomes, to expand the circumstances under which cataract surgery can be performed, and to ultimately improve quality of life for patients undergoing this life-changing treatment.
