Excerpt

This infographic summarizes the findings of a narrative review in which Lin et al1 explore the efficacy of complementary and alternative therapies for managing chronic pain and secondarily for decreasing opiate use. Studies investigating integrative approaches including yoga, meditation, chiropractic manipulation, tai chi, massage, acupuncture, and relaxation techniques were sought through an electronic database search. Though there were weak positive effects on chronic pain control with these complementary techniques, only acupuncture showed strong evidence for mitigation of chronic pain and decreased opiate consumption.
