We read with great interest “Facial Contouring by Targeted Restoration of Facial Fat Compartment Volume: The Midface” by Dr. Wang et al.1 They correctly state that, “The present study provides the anatomical and clinical basis of the concept of compartmentally based fat grafting.…”
We indeed concur with their conclusions. We were surprised to note that they did not reference our article on this very topic, “Volumetric Rejuvenation of the Tear Trough with Repo and Ristow.”2 They specifically discuss the Ristow space in their article.
In our article, we demonstrate the synergistic effect of lower lid blepharoplasty with fat repositioning, combined with fat transfer to the Ristow space. We were inspired to develop this method after reading the original description of the Ristow space in cadaver studies.3 To our knowledge, ours was the first article to describe a clinical experience with injecting the Ristow space. We applaud Dr. Wang et al. for their excellent article; however, we believe it would have been proper and clinically useful to cite the first clinical article on this topic.
