Abstract

In addition to diagnosing breast cancer, screening mammography may reveal a previously unknown systemic condition, which can then be promptly evaluated and treated. When the presence of an underlying condition is already known, the realization that the mammographic finding does not represent an intrinsic breast lesion can preclude the need for further diagnostic workup.
