Abstract

Human metapneumovirus is a pathogen causing mild-to-severe upper and lower respiratory tract infections. Primary infections occur during early childhood and reinfections happen throughout later life, leading to a severe outcome, especially in the immunocompromised and the elderly. This review briefly summarizes current progress in the development of prophylaxis and treatment options for human metapneumovirus infections.
