Abstract

Summary

Although it is well recognized that anesthetic and surgical procedures on an elective basis should be avoided during pregnancy at any stage, occasionally an emergency arises which necessitates surgical intervention. Because of the susceptibility of the fetus at the 8 to 10 week age level to teratogenic productivity, the anesthesiologist is necessarily concerned with his choice of drugs and techniques which may affect adversely the normal fetal physiology.
