An increased incidence of bariatric surgery in the general population, combined with a rising number of complex patients in this area, led researchers to reexamine the usefulness of intensive care unit (ICU) services after bariatric surgery. By defining the incidence, indications, and outcomes of bariatric patients requiring postsurgical ICU admittance, the authors of this study hoped to assess whether preoperative factors were predictive of the need for ICU services.
